The Southeastern Micro Labor Workshop brings together local PhD micro labor economists from Southeastern institutions to foster an active exchange and discussion.
SMLW 2022 will be hosted in Columbia, South Carolina, at the Darla Moore School of Business (DMSB 324 is on the third floor, Executive Education side). This will be the fourth year of the workshop and the second time we meet in-person.
The workshop will start Thursday, April 7, with lunch and end Friday, April 8, at 2 p.m. (ET). Eight papers will be presented with plenty of breaks for networking.
Registration is now open; click this link to complete. Registration will close March 31, 2022.
The Graduate Columbia is the conference hotel. Please note that the preferred rate of $145 per night will expire Friday, March 25, 2022. Make a reservation soon since the workshop coincides with The Masters golf tournament and downtown Columbia hotels will be in high demand. Links to additional convenient hotels can be found in the menu on the right.
The University of South Carolina economics department will provide lunch Thursday and Friday and breakfast on Friday. Snacks will be provided at the breaks. We will also host a Thursday happy hour with hors d'oeuvres. Thursday will conclude with a self-pay group dinner at a location to be determined. The registration form allows indication of dietary restrictions.
Masks are currently required in educational spaces at the University of South Carolina (including the conference center), but these rules may change by the time of the workshop. You are free to wear your mask regardless of requirements. Social events will be held at well-ventilated spaces. The campus has high vaccination rates among faculty and students (⪰83% and ⪰72%, respectively, and higher among graduate students). We hope by April that community case numbers will also be low. We will keep you updated about COVID protocols as the date approaches.
We are looking forward to seeing you in April. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Orgul Ozturk, Julie Hotchkiss, or Melinda Pitts with questions. We hope to see you in South Carolina.
Please sign up if you would like to receive information about the workshop.
Note: Lunches and reception will be at the Sonoco Pavilion (cube building by the palm trees)
