Rajinder P. Singh has served as chairman of BankUnited Inc. since 2019 and has been president and chief executive officer of the company since 2017. BankUnited Inc. is the bank holding company of BankUnited N.A., a national bank headquartered in Miami Lakes, Florida, with banking centers across the state of Florida, the New York metropolitan area, and Dallas, Texas.
One of the founding organizers of BankUnited, Mr. Singh served as chief operating officer and was instrumental in what was the largest bank IPO in US history when BankUnited Inc. went public in 2011. Prior to joining BankUnited, he was managing director and led the financial services practice of WL Ross & Co., a private equity firm with more than $8 billion under management.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Singh was executive vice president of Capital One Financial Corporation's banking segment. He joined Capital One when the company purchased North Fork Bancorporation, where he was head of corporate strategy and development. Before North Fork, Mr. Singh was managing director at FleetBoston Financial Corporation.
Mr. Singh has been recognized by Florida Trend as a 2022 Florida 500: Florida's Most Influential Business Leaders and by the South Florida Business Journal as a 2022 Power Leader in Banking and Finance, 2022 Power Leaders 250, and 2021 Ultimate CEO. He also received the 2021 Tepper Alumni Achievement Award from the Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business.
Mr. Singh is a member of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and served as a member of the Federal Advisory Council from 2020 through 2022. He has also served as the chair of the Mid-Size Bank Coalition of America. Currently, he is a member of the board of trustees at Friends Academy in Locust Valley, New York and business board of advisors at Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University.
He earned his MBA from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and his BS in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi.
