The Atlanta Fed, along with the St. Louis Fed and the Mississippi Manufacturers Association, recently hosted a conference in Jackson, Mississippi, on the future of workforce development. More than 100 leaders from industry, education, economic and workforce development, and government discussed the challenges and opportunities facing Mississippi's workers and employers. Governor Phil Bryant kicked off the conference by discussing the importance of implementing effective workforce development strategies and the need to prepare individuals at all points across the education and income continuum for job opportunities in the state. National subject matter experts then shared their perspectives on emerging economic, demographic, and labor market trends and their potential impacts for the state. Speakers discussed promising practices and ideas from other parts of the country that attendees could consider implementing in Mississippi. Participants then had the opportunity to work together to develop suggestions for ideas to carry forward.
