In October, the U3 civilian unemployment rate ticked down 0.1 percentage point to 4.9 percent. The broader U6 measure of unemployment, which includes persons marginally attached to the labor force and persons working part-time for economic reasons (PTER), fell 0.2 percentage point from the previous month to an eight-year low of 9.5 percent. The labor force participation rate fell 0.1 percentage point to 62.8 percent.
