Unadjusted for inflation, advance estimates of core retail sales were 4.5 percent higher in December 2012 than December 2011. Month-over-month, adjusted core retail sales increased 0.6 percent.
According to the National Retail Federation, holiday sales increased 3 percent, below the NRF's forecast of 4.1 percent.
