Net aggregate payrolls for Sixth District states fell by 9,600 in December. However, payroll changes varied dramatically by state within the District. Florida and Louisiana had the second- and third-worst payroll declines in the country in December, while Georgia had the third-largest addition in payrolls in the nation.

- Among Sixth District states, Florida (down 15,300) and Louisiana (down 11,400) had the largest losses in the District, and the second- and third-largest payroll losses in the country, respectively. Alabama (down 1,800) and Mississippi (down 1,500) had similar but smaller losses in payrolls over the month.
- Georgia (up 14,400) had the largest gain in the Sixth District and the third-largest payroll gain in the country, after New York (up 35,100) and New Jersey (up 30,200), which were still recovering from Hurricane Sandy. Tennessee also netted 6,000 new payrolls in December.
