According to Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey (PMMS), over the week ending April 26, the average rate for a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage decreased 3 basis points (bps) to 2.61 percent.

The average rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage decreased 1 bp to 3.40 percent.

Additional detail:

  • The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage dropped to a record-low rate for the series in the week ending April 26, 2013.
  • The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is at its lowest level since the week ending January 17, 2013. Of particular note, the current 30-year fixed rate is only 10 bps higher than the series' record low (3.31 percent on November), which occurred on November 22, 2012 (the series began in 1971).
