The unemployment rate fell 0.1 percentage point to reach 7.5 percent in April. This was the result of an increase in the number of employed persons by 293,000, as well as a decline in the number of unemployed persons by 83,000.
The labor force participation rate remained at 63.3 percent in April. Until recently, the labor force participation rate has not been as low as 63.3 percent since May 1979.
