In the June reading of consumer confidence by the Conference Board, six-month-ahead consumer expectations moved ahead nearly 9 points, after improving 6.3 points in May and 10.6 points in April. The improvement in June came mostly from questions related to business conditions and jobs.
The present situation component of the Conference Board survey has also improved recently, increasing 4.4 points in June, 3.8 points in May, and 1.8 points in April.
Additional detail:
- The net percent anticipating better business conditions six months from now improved from a net 6.5 percent to 8.9 percent.
- The net percent anticipating more jobs six months from now improved from a net -3.7 percent to 3.5 percent.
- The net percent expecting higher income six months from now was essentially unchanged, increasing from a net 0.3 percent to 0.8 percent.
