The United States added 162,000 payrolls in July, driven by increases in the retail sector with 47,000 payrolls and professional and business services with 36,000 jobs. Within leisure and hospitality, employment in food services and drinking places increased by 38,000 in July; however, the sector as a whole increased by a net 23,000 payrolls. Manufacturing employment was essentially unchanged in July and has changed little, on net, during the past 12 months.
