There were conflicting readings in consumer sentiment surveys regarding the future of the economy. The Conference Board Consumer Sentiment survey posted a slight increase in August measuring 89.5 points over July's 86.0. The University of Michigan survey slipped a bit, posting measures of 73.7 in August down from 75.4 in July.
