The United States added, on net, 169,000 payrolls in August, roughly in line with the 12-month average of 184,000. Revisions for July and June resulted in a net downward revision of 74,000 for the two months combined: June's payroll growth number was revised from 188,000 to 172,000; July's was revised from 162,000 to 104,000. Public payrolls increased a net 17,000, the largest increase since last September.
