After falling from 7.6 percent to 7.4 percent in July, the unemployment rate ticked down to 7.3 percent in August, the lowest rate since November 2008. The labor force participation rate ticked down from 63.4 percent in July to 63.2 percent in August, the lowest rate since August 1978.
