Compared with the previous month, total industrial production rose in September, boosted by a sizable gain in electric utilities output. Manufacturing output increased at a more modest pace, and auto production rose strongly for the second consecutive month. On a year-over-year basis, auto production in September grew at the fastest pace since December 2012. However, year-over-year growth in total manufacturing production remained sluggish.
