The headline consumer price index (CPI) increased 1.2 percent over the last 12 months, the smallest 12-month increase since April. Core CPI (excluding food and energy) rose slightly to 1.7 percent. Headline CPI edged up 0.2 percent (2.2 percent annualized), and core CPI increased slightly by 0.1 percent (1.5 percent annualized) month over month in September on a seasonally adjusted basis.
