The ISM Purchasing Managers Index eased slightly in December, dropping to 57.0 points from November's reading of 57.3. The underlying data were strong despite the mild decline. The new orders index rose to 64.2 in December and has now exceeded 60 for five consecutive months. The employment index registered 59.6, its highest reading since June 2011.
