The monthly average of the trade-weighted exchange value of the dollar rose 0.2 percent in December from to the previous month. In 2013, the dollar gained approximately 3 percent against the basket of currencies of major U.S. trading partners. In December, the dollar was up nearly 8 percent from the recent low in July 2011 but was still more than 20 percent below its peak value in February 2002.
