Crude oil prices averaged $17.05 per million of BTU (MMBtu) in January, essentially unchanged from January 2013. Meanwhile, natural gas prices averaged $4.69 per MMBtu, up 40.8 percent from year-ago prices. Unusually cold weather across much of the county has affected both the demand and supply of natural gas, contributing to recent price increases.
