Payroll growth was relatively widespread in April. For the third consecutive month, the largest net gain came from professional and business services, which added 75,000 jobs (24,000 came from temporary help services). Other significant contributors were retail trade with 35,000 added payrolls, construction with 32,000 (11,000 were in heavy and civil-engineering construction; 7,000 in residential construction), and health care, which added 19,000 jobs.
