There were 783,000 discouraged workers (those not in the labor force who want a job yet are not actively looking) in March, an increase of 85,000 from March. The number of long-term unemployed (those looking for work for 27 weeks or more) declined by 287,000 in April to 3.5 million. Though the long-term unemployed are trending down, the number remains much higher than it was prerecession. The number of people working part-time for economic reasons was up 54,000 in April from March, yet the number was down nearly 500,000 from April 2013.
