Payroll growth was relatively widespread in May, with health care, social assistance, and professional and business services each accounting for an increase of 55,000 jobs. Of the 55,000 jobs gained in health care and social assistance, 34,000 came from health care alone, twice its average monthly gain over the past 12 months. Other significant contributors were leisure and hospitality, which added 39,000 jobs (32,000 came from food service and drinking places). Transportation and warehousing added 16,000 jobs.
