Total retail sales rose 0.3 percent from April to May. April's growth rate of 0.1 percent was revised up significantly to 0.5 percent. Core retail sales (sales excluding auto, gas, and building materials) remained flat month over month. Year over year, core retail sales grew at a pace of 3.0 percent in May.
