In the week ending June 14, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims for unemployment insurance declined to 312,000. The four-week moving average, a less volatile gauge of underlying labor market conditions, was down slightly from the previous week, also at nearly 312,000. The decreased-claims figure is consistent with the continued, albeit gradual, downward trend from the recessionary peak and is in line with prerecession levels.
