In the week ending June 21, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims for unemployment insurance fell marginally to 312,000. The four-week moving average, a less volatile gauge of underlying labor market conditions, was up slightly from the previous week, at just over 314,000. The claims figure is consistent with the continued, albeit gradual, downward trend from the recessionary peak and is in line with prerecession levels.
