The United States added 288,000 payrolls on net in June. Payroll growth was relatively widespread, with large gains in government and other services, professional and business services, retail trade, and the leisure and hospitality industry. Of the 84,000 jobs added in government and other services, 38,000 were from education and health services and 26,000 from government (most were at the local government level). Professional and business services added 67,000 net new payrolls, which had averaged 53,000 jobs for the prior 12 months. Retail trade payrolls increased by 40,000 (significantly above the prior 12-month average of 26,000). Leisure and hospitality gained 39,000 jobs (the prior 12-month average was 34,000).
