The headline personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index rose 1.5 percent year over year in August, slightly slower than its July pace. Core PCE price inflation, which excludes food and energy, rose 1.5 percent year over year in August, unchanged from July. PCE headline inflation fell at a 0.6 percent annualized rate in August, a deceleration from a 1.1 percent pace in July, and the annualized core figure rose 0.9 percent, down from 1.2 percent in July. Recent PCE price index data suggest inflationary pressures remain at bay.
