Department of the Treasury on March 12 and 13 for a two-day public sale of uncut sheets of $1 and $2 notes at its main building, located downtown at 104 Marietta Street, N.W., at the corner of Spring and Marietta streets. The Bank is convenient to the Five Points MARTA Station and is in close proximity to a number of parking lots and garages.

The public sale will be held between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Individuals wishing to make purchases may do so with cash or a credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Personal checks will not be accepted. The prices of uncut currency sheets of $1 and $2 notes are as follows:

$20.50 for a set of 16 $38.00 for a set of 16
$39.00 for a set of 32 $72.00 for a set of 32

This special public sale is being held to commemorate the first printing of $2 notes in nearly 20 years. The $2 note, which originated in 1776, features a portrait of Thomas Jefferson and will bear the seal of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. A total of 153.6 million notes will be printed and delivered to the Federal Reserve System, which will then distribute them through commercial banks.

Uncut sheets of currency make great gifts for birthdays, graduations, weddings, and other occasions, and they can also be used for employee awards and customer incentives. Uncut currency sheets can be purchased locally only during this special sale; however, sheets of currency can also be ordered after March 13 by writing to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Mail Order Sales, Room 515M, 14th and C Streets, SW, Washington, D.C. 20028, or calling (202) 874-3316 (7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday).

U.S. Treasurer Mary Ellen Withrow will be available to meet with the media at the Federal Reserve Bank on Tuesday, March 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Ms. Withrow, the only person to have held the post of treasurer on the local, state and national levels, was appointed by President Clinton in February 1994.
