John Kerr has been promoted to senior vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, announced Jack Guynn, president and chief executive officer of the Atlanta Fed. Kerr's promotion is effective Jan. 1, 2000.

Kerr is responsible for the facilities management and building projects departments, including the development of plans to meet the Bank's facilities needs. Kerr joined the staff of the planning department at the Bank in 1967. Since then he has served in various capacities at the Bank's offices in Atlanta, New Orleans and Miami and on a special Federal Reserve System assignment at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond's communications center in Culpeper, Va. He was named assistant vice president in 1974 and vice president in 1980.

A native of Augusta, Ga., he received a bachelor of business administration degree in management from the University of Georgia. He also completed the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta serves the Sixth Federal Reserve District, which encompasses Alabama, Florida, Georgia and segments of Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. As part of the nation's central banking system, the Atlanta Fed participates in setting national monetary policy, supervises numerous commercial banks and provides a variety of financial services to depository institutions and the U.S. government.
