Jeff Weltzien has been named vice president and assistant branch manager of the Atlanta branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, announced Jack Guynn, president and chief executive officer of the Atlanta Fed. Guynn also announced that Marie Gooding will join the Federal Reserve’s Retail Payments Office as assistant vice president in charge of automated clearinghouse (ACH) operations and automation.

In his new position, Weltzien retains primary responsibility for payments processing and will coordinate other branch activities, assisting the branch manager. Before assuming his new position, he was a vice president in the Atlanta branch with responsibility for the payments area. Weltzien began his career at the Jacksonville branch in 1973 and was promoted to assistant vice president in 1987. He was responsible for various operations of the Jacksonville branch, primarily in the payments area. He joined the Atlanta branch in 1999.

Weltzien has served on various Federal Reserve System groups responsible for developing and advancing new check and electronic payments services nationwide. He led a system user group on developing business requirements for a common electronic check application to be used by all 12 Reserve Banks. Weltzien holds a bachelor of science degree in finance from Ohio University. He has also completed the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University and the Executive Management Program at Pennsylvania State University.

In her new position, Gooding is in charge of ACH operations and automation for the Federal Reserve’s Retail Payments Office, which is housed at the Atlanta Fed. Before being named to her new position, she was assistant vice president and assistant branch manager of the Atlanta branch. Gooding joined the Atlanta Fed in June 1987 in the computer operations and network services departments. She was promoted to assistant vice president in 1994 and to assistant branch manager in 1996. Previously, she was responsible for the district’s data security program, automation-related budgeting and expense control, and mainframe/midrange computer and network operations. Before joining the bank, Gooding worked as a data security manager and as a secondary math teacher in the Georgia public school system. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in secondary math education from Old Dominion University. She has also completed Duke University’s Advanced Management Program.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta serves the Sixth Federal Reserve District, which encompasses Alabama, Florida, Georgia and sections of Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. As part of the nation’s central banking system, the Atlanta Fed participates in setting national monetary policy, supervises numerous commercial banks and provides a variety of financial services to depository institutions and the U.S. government.
