Steve Foley has been named vice president in the supervision and regulation division of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, announced Jack Guynn, president and chief executive officer of the Atlanta Fed.

Foley joined the Bank in 1981 as an assistant examiner and was promoted to assistant vice president with responsibility for safety and soundness supervision of banks and bank holding companies, including the Sixth Federal Reserve District’s largest, most complex institutions, in 1993. Over the years, Foley has participated in numerous policy-related initiatives for the Federal Reserve System and currently serves on two groups leading the redesign of resource deployment related to the Federal Reserve’s oversight role for large banking organizations. In his new position, Foley will expand his strategic planning and policy development roles to include broader aspects of the Federal Reserve’s responsibilities in bank supervision and risk management.

Foley graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor of business administration in finance. He also completed the Penn State University Program for Executive Development in 1991.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta serves the Sixth Federal Reserve District, which encompasses Alabama, Florida, Georgia and sections of Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. As part of the nation’s central banking system, the Atlanta Fed participates in setting national monetary policy, supervises numerous commercial banks and provides a variety of financial services to depository institutions and the U.S. government.
