Fred L. Green III, president and chief operating officer of Synovus Financial Corp., was reappointed to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors' Federal Advisory Council (FAC). His term began Jan. 1, 2007, and ends Dec. 31, 2007.

Green joined Synovus in 1995 when Synovus acquired the National Bank of South Carolina (NBSC). He served as chairman, president and chief executive officer of NBSC for six years prior to being named vice chairman of Synovus in 1993 and to his current position in 2006.

Currently Green serves as a board member and treasurer of the University of South Carolina Educational Foundation. He is a past board member of the South Carolina Bankers Association and the Medical University of South Carolina Board of Visitors. He is a former member of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and also served as its Federal Advisory Council representative.

Green received his bachelor's degree in finance and M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina.

The FAC is composed of 12 representatives of the banking industry. The FAC meets several times a year to consult with and advise the Board on all matters within the Board's jurisdiction. Each Reserve Bank chooses one FAC member to represent its District, and the members elect their own officers.
