Brittany Birken serves as an assistant vice president for Community and Economic Development at the Atlanta Fed.  In this role, she leads the engagement strategy for community development at the Bank in support of the Federal Reserve's dual mandate of maximum employment and stable prices.

Biography

Brittany Birken serves as an assistant vice president for Community and Economic Development at the Atlanta Fed.  In this role, she leads the engagement strategy for community development at the Bank in support of the Federal Reserve's dual mandate of maximum employment and stable prices. This includes driving targeted and high-impact engagement opportunities that help improve the economic opportunity of low- and moderate-income households for a stronger economy. She specializes in the identification of barriers and solutions to career advancement for low-income working families.

Prior to joining the Atlanta Fed in 2019, Birken was a faculty member at the University of Florida's College of Education. She has also served as the director of Florida's Office of Early Learning and chief executive of the Florida Children's Council, the umbrella organization for children's services councils. Florida Trend named her one of the Florida 500 Most Influential Leaders from 2021 to 2025. She is a recipient of the Federal Reserve Board's 2023 Janet L. Yellen Award for Excellence in Community Development. Birken holds a PhD from Florida State University.
