Central Bank Business Survey and Liaison Program Group

Central banks rely on an array of data to inform monetary policymaking. In addition to closely followed statistics such as the unemployment rate and gross domestic product (GDP), a growing number of central banks conduct surveys and interviews with businesses to gather economic intelligence. The Central Bank Business Survey and Liaison Program Group (CBBS) was formed in 2010 to provide a forum for researchers, practitioners, and business liaisons to share their expertise in business survey administration and methodology and to discuss survey results and analysis.

The CBBS group gathers each year for a conference. In addition to several panel discussions, the two-day event features presentations on survey design and methods, data collection, and regional analysis. Typically, the conference draws participants from 25 to 30 central banks and is hosted by a different central bank each year.
