Gold stater (560–546 B.C.) The mix of gold and silver in the electrum stater made value inconsistent. King Croesus, successor to Alyattes, stabilized the stater by minting one of pure gold. The Lydian government’s endorsement of its weight and quality made it widely acceptable and very useful in simplifying trade. |
