Hedge funds have morphed into significant players in financial markets, challenging traditional investment banks, private equity funds, and other suppliers of financial services. At the same time, hedge funds are less regulated and more opaque than other financial firms when it comes to providing investors information on their activities. Do these firms represent significant sources of systemic risk, and are additional regulations or mandatory disclosures to investors needed? The conference explores these and other issues related to the role hedge funds play in financial markets.
