Alexander Monge-Naranjoz is a vice president, senior economist, and leader of the Macroeconomics Group at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. His research focuses on macroeconomic theory and policy, international economics, labor markets, growth and development, and the economics of education. Before joining the Atlanta Fed, Monge-Naranjo held academic appointments at the European University Institute, where he served as professor of economics and head of department. Previously, he held professorships at Washington University in St. Louis, Northwestern University, Penn State University, and the University of Costa Rica. He was also a research officer and economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Monge-Naranjo's work has been published in the top leading academic journals, including the Journal of Political Economy, Econometrica, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, and the American Economic Review. He is a research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research and a research affiliate at the Stone Center for Research on Wealth Inequality and Mobility at the University of Chicago. He has also served as a visiting professor at institutions across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago, an MSc in economics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and a BA in economics from the Universidad de Costa Rica.
