Greg Haile: Hello, I'm Greg Haile, CEO of Upwardly Global and Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's Board of Directors.

Today we're starting the search for the Atlanta Fed's next president and CEO. As the Bank announced in November, Raphael Bostic will retire at the end of his term in February after more than eight years of distinguished service to the Atlanta Fed and the Federal Reserve System.

Appointing a Reserve Bank president is the responsibility of the Bank's board of directors. The person we select must then be approved by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, DC, as outlined in the Federal Reserve Act.

The Fed is a public institution, of course, and in the spirit of transparency, I'd like to offer some insight into the presidential search process.

The first step was forming a search committee. Now, I'm honored to lead that committee in my role as board chair, and I've asked all the nonbanker members on our board of directors to serve on that committee as well.

That group includes leaders from various industries, from professional services and retail to industrial distribution, health care, and insurance, and from communities across the Federal Reserve Sixth District, an area that encompasses all of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, and parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

Our committee plays a key role in the search and selection process. We will also retain an executive search firm to help us conduct a thorough search and identify and carefully vet a pool of candidates with strong ties to our District.

Now, let me assure you that public input matters to us. We'll create channels for any interested people to share their thoughts throughout the process. We'll hold listening sessions, field surveys, and offer additional ways to reach out to the search committee directly and even apply for consideration for the position.

The Atlanta Fed president and CEO is an extraordinary position. The person helps set monetary policy for the world's largest economy, that of the United States, obviously, and oversees all the Atlanta Fed's operations.

It takes a special person to fill such a role. The committee will outline the qualities we're looking for in more detail soon, but the ideal candidate will be a strategic leader committed to public service, who will advance the vision and mission of the Atlanta Fed and the critical work of the Federal Reserve System.
