What is the Federal Reserve, and what does it do? How do you spot counterfeit currency? What noncash payment method do people use most often? Find the answers to these questions with our updated online brochures: Structures and Functions, Paying for It, and Dollars and Cents.
New features include an elegant and user-friendly design, engaging graphics, and up-to-date information about the Fed's unique structure and key responsibilities, the ongoing evolution in the way we make purchases, and fundamental facts about U.S. currency. Note that two of these brochures—Structure and Functions and Dollars and Cents— are also available in print (order here).
Structure and Functions
Learn how the early architects of the U.S. central bank designed the Fed to balance different perspectives—public and private, regional and national. Structure and Functions includes new information about changes to the Fed's structure and responsibilities as a result of the Dodd-Frank Act. The brochure explains some of the nontraditional policy tools the Federal Open Market Committee used to combat the Great Recession and to spur the economic recovery.
Paying for It
This online-only publication includes updated information about the most common methods of making payments and describes the Fed's role in the nation's payments system. The brochure also includes consumer information on managing your checking account and other topics, as well as advice on managing credit and debit cards.
Dollars and Cents
This brochure retains its distinctive look and feel from a previous update, but we've added some new features, including an introduction to the latest denomination of U.S. currency to be redesigned—the $100 note—and its unique security features that help deter counterfeiters. The brochure also features the latest numbers on the amount of currency in circulation.
